Living culture and nature at the footsteps of the hotel

Karkkila has several unique cultural sites and true Finnish nature right in the near proximity of the Tehtaan Hotelli. The 200-year-old factory with its red brick buildings creates an interesting contrast with the surrounding nature and beautiful, scenic opportunities for photos.
There are different nature types such as sandy beaches, riverside walks and hidden forest paths that lead to crystal clead ponds, accessible both by foot and by bike. It is easy to organise memorable events and meetings in the beautiful surroundings of Karkkila.
Högfors foundry was founded 199 years ago, and it has influenced the life of Karkkila since day one. The interesting cultural sites include the Finnish Foundry Museum (Suomen Valimomuseo), exhibiting a wide selection of cast iron products produced in Högfors over the decades. They include stoves, bath tubs, frying pans and all sorts of everyday goods which were very popular before the era of steel. The museum can be found opposite of the Bremer Mansion.
You may also want to take a walk in idyllic Fagerkulla, consisting of beautiful century-old red log houses, built by the foundry to house its workers. These days, Fagerkulla is a lively and active village where people enjoy living and taking care of the beautiful, bohemian gardens. Fagerkulla also hosts another interesting museum, Workers’ Museum (Karkkila-Högforsin työläismuseo), with replicas of workers’ homes , a summer theater and summertime café Pakari (
Nature starts on the footsteps of Tehtaan Hotelli. The most courageous of the crowd can swim in the Pyhäjärvi Lake even in the middle of winter. In summertime, you can rent SUP-boards, rowing boats, play minigolf or tennis or a round of basketball at the sandy beach of Pyhäjärvi, much loved by children and families.
Fly fishers have found the streams and rapids of Karkkila (Karkkilan kosket ja joet) which are known for the joys of trout catching. If you like to paddle, the Vähävesi Canoe Center (Vähävesi) is your spot for professional guidance for both families and team builders
Karkkila is proud of the cycling opportunities both on roads and in the forest trails. The Pikkupässi Route (Pikkupässi-reitti) follows the old railroad tracks between Karkkila and Hyvinkää and is suitable for Sunday riders. There are more challenging tracks for mountain bikers in the nearby forests.
