The story of the Factory Hotel
History of the Iron Foundry
The Factory Hotel is part of Karkkila Högfors Foundry's history. The hotel's cartesian setting consists of the houses and park-like courtyards built by the Högfors patrons in different eras. Today, the area is an important part of the cultural-historically significant iron foundry complex. The Högfors Foundry, currently called Componenta Castings, is still functioning and producing iron every day.
For a long time, the Factory Hotel was reserved exclusively for the use of the factory's own guests, and outsiders had no business being there. In recent years, however, the gates to the area have been opened and now, with respect for the past, the renovated accommodation, banqueting and meeting facilities are available to all. The story of the loss of the Tehtaan Hotel received a real boost when new owners, Vesa and Minna Kokkonen, took over the management of the hotel in the summer of 2023.

Owners of the Factory Hotel
Minna and Vesa bought the business of Tehtaan Hotel themselves unexpectedly in July last year. Minna has also been involved in organising many domestic and international meetings and events, while Vesa has been in the hotel business for most of his career, most recently managing a four-hotel complex in the Helsinki Metropolitan area.
Minna and Vesa had a long-standing dream of one day owning their own small B&B in, say, the south of France or northern Spain. When contacted by a sales representative from the Factory Hotel, they finally couldn't say no. The Factory Hotel, the Högfors Ironworks and Karkkila were familiar to them, as Vesa's mother's side of the family is from the area and Vesa and Minna have had the family house here as a summer cottage for decades.
It has been a pleasure to continue the great work of the previous owners, and the hotel and restaurant have continued to evolve. The Kokkoses and their team want to invest more in banqueting, events, meeting services and accommodated meetings. Competitive advantage is gained by creating unique meeting experiences, offering high quality, locally produced food and, together with the partners, a wide range of activities to get away from it all. Activities range from canoeing and hummingbird retreats to a private cinema screening at Aki Kaurismäki's stunning Kino Laika cinema.
The Factory Hotel is also part of a large business community that works together to develop the profile of the Högfors Ruukk area. In addition, we have joined Visit Finland's Sustainable Travel Finland path, as part of which we are developing our operations in a more sustainable direction. We already operate responsibly, for example, by using geothermal heating and preferring local producers for our raw materials.
