Live culture and great nature experiences
Karkkila has unique cultural environments, tourist and visitor destinations, and nature trails lined with ridges, ponds and rivers. The small town provides a peaceful setting for events and meetings and offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities in all seasons.
Karkkila's diverse tradition of foundry and working-class culture, dating back to the 19th century, offers tourists a unique experience. Just outside the Factory Hotel is the Finnish Foundry Museum, which displays a diverse collection of Högfors foundry products, from frying pans to stoves, tubs and stoves. You can also take a short walk to idyllic Fagerkulla, an old working-class settlement that is still an active village community with its red wooden houses and old gardens. Fagerkulla is also home to the Workers' Museum, a summer theatre and the Pakari summer café.
Nature starts right at the Factory Hotel. The brave ones can go swimming in the adjacent Pyhäjärvi, even in the middle of winter. In summer, there are also rowing boats, SUP boats, mini golf, tennis and basketball, as well as a sandy beach for families with children.
Fly fishermen have discovered the rapids and rivers of Karkkila. The paths in the nearby forests lead to peaceful pond meadows with viewpoints. Longer and shorter canoe trips are possible at the nearby Vähävesi Paddling Centre.
Karkkila is a cycling destination with a good network of cycle paths and pleasantly winding gravel roads. The Pikkupässi route, which follows the old railway line, is ideal for those who prefer a leisurely cycle ride. The nearby forests offer routes for mountain biking enthusiasts.
